The Gorfion is situated at 1,600 metres, making it one of the highest family hotels in Europe. The location has its very own charm: In summer, a refreshing breeze wafts through the high valley, while in winter there is often already snow when it’s still autumn down in the valley. Malbun is quiet and easy to get around – and that’s exactly what makes family holidays up here so pleasant. Distances stay short, children quickly feel safe, and outside there are new adventures in the air every single day.
By the way, the 2,308-metre-high Gorfion peak at the end of the mountain valley shares its name with our hotel. Mr Gorfion thinks it’s a perfect match.
Who is Mr Gorfion? The Gorfion A to Z
Our little mouse sometimes doesn’t know what he’d do without the hotel team. Everyone brings something of their own: a listening ear, a good idea, a quick solution. At reception, in the kitchen, with the housekeeping team or in childcare, this creates a spirit of togetherness that could move mountains.
When a baby needs their favourite purée, someone is planning an outing or fresh bed linen is needed at short notice, there is always someone happy to help. This feeling of “We’ll take care of it” is what defines our hotel. And whenever Mr Gorfion pads his way through the Gorfion, an extra smile often appears on many faces – his warm nature is simply infectious.
... with a lot of continuity. The Gorfion has been part of Malbun since the early 1970s. Many people in Liechtenstein still remember the “Taverna” dance bar in the Gorfion cellar, the long nights and the weekends that always had a special ring to them up in the high valley. In 2016 the Gorfion was threatened with closure, but a dedicated team set up a foundation at the last minute that saved the hotel. After that, things moved fast: renovation work, new ideas, a lot of hands-on effort and a fresh start in December 2016. Just before the reopening, Mr Gorfion moved in too and declared the Gorfion his home.
Mr Gorfion loves to sneak, scamper and poke his nose into everything. He adores children’s laughter, great stories and anything that smells of adventure and fun. He likes to appear just when no one is expecting him. If you spot him, feel free to ask about his adventures. Those are his favourite stories to share.
