Hiking in Malbun

I’ve had enough – I’m off to swing. There’s hardly a better way to clear your head than on a swing. In Malbun you can combine it with an easy hike along the swing trail. You’ll reach 10 different swings, each with its own unique view of the Malbun mountain panorama.

On this roughly 5 km loop via Sass Lake, children aged around 4 to 12 playfully discover nature together with their accompanying adults. Prompts, search-and-find pictures and movement tasks create ever new nature experiences. The loop is largely accessible in winter, too. You decide the order and how long you stay at each point. This family-friendly hike along the Sassweg to the little Sass lake includes the discovery trail for children. Sun, clouds, wind and animals … on the Malbun discovery trail, families become nature researchers. The matching explorer kit for this 2-hour tour is available from the tourist office for a deposit.

Centuries ago, settlers from Valais came to Triesenberg and Malbun and have shaped this region to this day. The WalserSagenWeg tells the stories of their sagas and legends and starts at the Walser Museum in Triesenberg. The tour can be done in three sections or as a single 12 km hike.

This is where alpine culture becomes visible. Knowledge about alpine farming in Malbun is shared in a playful and interactive way. Anyone who shows all collected stamps at the Malbun Center will receive a small surprise.

In summer, this easy circular hike takes you past alpine flower meadows. In winter, as you hike through the Valüna valley, you’ll collect impressions of snow crystals, icicles and pure winter romance. From the Gänglesee car park in Steg to Alp Valüna, the marked hiking trail follows the Samina stream. Alp Valüna is farmed from May to mid-October.

Alp Pradamee lies just above Malbun, around 20 minutes from the centre. The alp has been actively farmed for a long time. On Pradamee, during the summer months, milk, alpine cheese, soft cheese, sour cheese, butter and yoghurt are freshly produced. All products can be enjoyed and purchased directly on the alp. An outdoor seating area invites you to linger.

It takes about 1 hour from the Gänglesee car park in Steg through the snow-covered winter landscape to the idyllic Berggasthaus Sücka. You can return on foot or by toboggan, which you can hire at the mountain inn.

This 5-hour circular hike is one of Liechtenstein’s hiking highlights. From Malbun, you hike from Sareiserjoch along the ridge to the Augstenberg (2,359 m) with impressive all-round views. Over a challenging ridge you reach the Pfälzerhütte; the route back leads via Alp Gritsch and flowering meadows to Malbun.

This roughly 4-hour hike is especially recommended in June and July, when the south-western ridge of the 2,050 m Schönberg is carpeted with flowers. An easy tour, also ideal for a sunrise hike.
